Bed bugs are a common problem very few people know much about, if they are even aware the parasites exist. With the recent resurgence of bed bugs, it is imperative that people understand the effective methods of bed bug protection to best protect themselves and their families. Though they are small and often go unseen, the presence of bed bugs and their effects on sleep, health and hygiene is obvious to those who have them. Early detection and bed bug protection is the key to eradicating these pests from your home and life. Bed bugs are small parasites, scientifically known as Cimex lectularis, can often go unseen by the human eye. Normally it takes large infestations of many bed bugs before a person notices there is a problem and can take action for bed bug prevention. Bed bugs are hitchhikers, so they can be transferred from infested areas to non-infested areas rather easily. So even if you don't have an infestation now, acquiring bed bugs is not unlikely. Mattresses, luggage, clothing, back packs, movie theater seats, anywhere humans come in contact with warm, safe, secretive environments that are frequented by humans, are suitable nesting sites for bed bugs. Bed bugs feed on human blood, when in the adult stage. The safety trench is designed with raised padding underneath the end stop, which creates an impassable seal. The seal prevents passage of bed bugs into and out of the encasement even if the zipper clasp pulls away from the end stop. Secure Seal consists of a "zip tie" which attaches to the zipper as well as an added tie down point on the encasement. This means that under no condition will the zipper pull away from the end clasp. We highly recommend that you purchase both a box spring or foundation encasement and a mattress encasement, to provide the optimal amount of protection. Measure the size of your mattress, and also the height, keeping in mind that the encasements are designed to fit a range of mattress heights. Note in the price grid below that we offer two different depths for Queen, King, and California King sizes, one for mattresses 7"-11" tall, and another option for mattresses 12"-18" tall. Installing the encasements is easy. Simply stand your mattress on edge alongside your bed and box spring, and drape it on over the long edge, zipping it down both short sides. Then drop the mattress back on top of the box spring, and zip up the last edge. Slide the mattress out of the way, and do the same with the box springs or foundation. Lastly, drop the box springs or foundation back onto your bed frame, then drop the mattress back on top of the foundation. Shipping time is approximately 10 days, and the encasements are fully warranted for 10 years. Machine wash warm, DO NOT use bleach or bleach alternatives. This will destroy the breathable membrane material. Do not dry clean. Do not iron. The actual material used is a synthetic blend of tightly woven material designed to ventilate and to resist damage in even the toughest environments.
